What makes our Oriental Beauty the Grand Cru is the appearance of the leaves. Compared to the Oriental Beauty Classic, the shape of the dry leaves are more thinly twisted like shoe strings and are smaller in size. This also signifies earlier picking to produce a softer liquor with more depth. After brewing, the wet leaves unveil more buds than fully grown leaves. It takes much more effort to harvest 1kg of buds than 1kg of full sized leaves. With the jassids’ preference of biting on buds/young leaves, the finest Oriental Beauty yields from the smallest leaves, rewarding you with a more full bodied and concentrated flavor.
There are numerous cultivars that can produce Oriental Beauty. While each cultivars (Jin Xuan, Ruan Zhi, Bai Mao Hou etc) has its merits, Oriental Beauty from Qing Xin Da Pang (青心大冇) is considered the most conventional cultivar.
