Huang Guan Yin, often known as 105 tea, is a new cultivar introduced by the Fujian Tea Research Institute in 2003. It is a combination of Huang Jin Gui (黄金桂) and Tie Guan Yin (铁观音). Unlike other Rock Teas (Yan Cha), which are heavily roasted and produce a heavier, broody liquor, Huang Guan Yin is lightly roasted over charcoal, producing a sharp fragrant note. Due to its hybrid character, it is normal to detect a diverse range of flavours. We observed a mellow apricot smell, sharp floral scents, toasts and an excellent minerality accent. This is ideal for tea drinkers who are new to Rock Tea or prefer a lighter-roasted Oolong.
